ADHD Assessments

Dr Shannon Butler, Dr Cedric Ng Liet Hing & Dr Christopher Broadfield offer comprehensive ADHD assessments for eligible patients. Each doctor has undertaken additional training in the assessment, diagnosis and management of ADHD.

About ADHD Assessments

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect attention, organisation, impulse control, activity levels and emotional regulation. Symptoms can present differently from person to person and may affect work, study, relationships and everyday life.

In New South Wales, appropriately trained and endorsed GPs may assess, diagnose and manage ADHD. This can provide patients with a more accessible pathway to assessment and ongoing care.

An ADHD assessment is comprehensive and may include:

  • A detailed discussion of your current symptoms and concerns

  • Your medical, developmental and mental health history

  • Your childhood, education, employment and family history

  • ADHD questionnaires or screening tools

  • Information from a parent, partner, family member, school or other relevant person, where appropriate

  • Consideration of other medical or mental health conditions that may be contributing to your symptoms

  • Discussion of the assessment outcome and recommended treatment or support options

Completing an assessment does not automatically result in an ADHD diagnosis or a prescription for medication. Any diagnosis and treatment recommendations will be based on the information available and the assessing doctor’s clinical judgement. Further information, investigations or referral to another health professional may sometimes be required.
